How do I avoid gender bias when the pronoun needed is “he” or “she”?
Use “they”, “them”, and “their” when referring to a person of unspecified sex, such as an employee, operator, user, applicant, member, or visitor. Do not use he/she or him/her or his/her. For example,
A visitor is required to wear their access pass at all times. If in doubt, request them to stop and complete an identity check.
The operator must follow the red dig line. If obscured, they should reverse or raise the bucket and visually confirm the boundary.
